ABOUT ME

Designing calmer homes for sensitive, neurodivergent, and deeply feeling families

Hi, I’m Ana.

I’m an architect, a mom, and someone who became deeply fascinated by one simple question:

What if the “chaos” you’re seeing is actually the entire family’s nervous system reacting to a space that feels too much, too fast, too loud?

Because suddenly, it wasn’t just about behavior, routines, or discipline.

It became about the environment we were all living inside — and how it was shaping how we felt, responded, and connected with each other.

From architecture to motherhood (and everything in between)

Before becoming a mom, I studied and worked in architecture.

I learned how spaces are built, how light moves, how materials affect emotion, and how design shapes human behavior in subtle but powerful ways.

But it wasn’t until I became a parent that I truly understood something no textbook teaches you:

A home is not just a structure. It’s a nervous system environment.

And for sensitive or neurodivergent children, that environment matters even more than we think.

What I noticed as a mom

Like many families, we tried strategies.

Routines. Explanations. Consequences. New systems that promised more calm.

But something kept repeating itself.

The harder we tried to “fix the behavior,” the more tension seemed to build in the background.

And slowly, I began to notice something important:

Sometimes the emotional intensity wasn’t coming from the child… or even one person in the home.

It was coming from the space itself.

Noise stacking on noise. Visual input everywhere. Transitions happening too fast. No real place for the nervous system to settle.

And in that kind of environment, overwhelm doesn’t stay quiet. It shows up in the whole family system.

Why Dulce de Leche Mom exists

Dulce de Leche Mom was created as a bridge between two worlds:

  • Architecture + design thinking

  • Parenting + emotional regulation in real life

Here, I share ideas to help families create homes that feel:

  • calmer for the nervous system

  • easier to focus and play

  • more supportive during emotional moments

  • and more connected overall

Not perfect homes.
Not Pinterest homes.
Just homes that feel more livable, softer, and more supportive for everyone inside them.

My approach

I don’t believe in rigid parenting systems.

I believe they need clearer environments.

When we adjust the space — even in small ways — we often see shifts in:

  • emotional intensity

  • focus and attention

  • transitions between activities

  • connection between parent and child

  • overall nervous system load in the home

Light, layout, sound, movement space, sensory zones… these are not aesthetic details.

They are part of emotional regulation.

A little more personal

I’m someone who notices details easily.

I’m drawn to quiet spaces, thoughtful design, and environments that feel soft to the nervous system.

I also know what it feels like when a space becomes too much — when everything feels louder than it should, and your body reacts before your mind can explain why.

That sensitivity is not something I separate from my work here.

It is the foundation of it.

If you’re here…

You might be raising a child who feels everything strongly.

You might be tired of trying strategies that don’t seem to fit your real life.

You might simply want your home to feel a little lighter.

You’re in the right place.

This space is here to help you create more calm, more understanding, and more ease in your everyday family life.

Welcome

You don’t need a perfect system.

You need a home that works with your nervous system — and with your family’s.

And that can start with understanding the space you’re living in a little differently.

I’m really glad you’re here.
